No matter how solid your team is at any given moment in time, you must always assume that one or multiple team members may leave the organization. As a leader you must strive to have as deep of a bench as possible for those possible eventualities. Even if you have the human capital to backfill a potential vacancy does the person named want the promotion and are they capable of taking over the position? Has the Succession Plan been memorialized in writing so the rest of the team knows the plan? The goal should always be to have multiple individuals that can cascade forward allowing the organization to fill the lowest denomination position if need be.
